Warm, cozy and historic hotel inside a huge orange garden, with a cistern. Friendly and welcoming Maria Christina will help you about everything. Be careful not to come with a big vehicle as the roads are quite narrow and dark.

We ended up at the Bella Cisterna by chance because our hotel had been evacuated due to the wildfires. What a stunning surprise. Behind the big black gate you walk into an unexpected, quite large garden with trees and an orchard and flowers and everything is so clean, so cared of. Quiet, just the Meltemi. And hosts were so welcoming. And they put us up knowing we could be called by our original hotel any day in case they reopened. So we spent only two days there. Of course our room was cozy and comfortable and breakfast includes home made delicacies and a real marmalade (local oranges, bitter) you cannot find elsewhere. They feature scattered playgrounds for kids and adults, and of course you can walk on the Cisterna, the huge water reservoir built with marble. Top notch experience.

Staying at The Bella Cisterna is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. Look I’ve seen a bunch of boutique hotels - traveled to 83 countries - can confidently say this gem stands out as a favorite. Nestled in a gorgeous orchard, it’s also perfectly central to the southern part of the island, where all the action is. This prime location just adds to its charm. Plus, the history is palpable: the owner’s family has lovingly cared for this place since the 14th century. It’s an absolute delight and a must-visit! PS ask about the massive cistern / water tank on the property made of marble! It’s an insane engineering / architectural wonder and you have to go check it out.
